What type of Performance Approach do you use?

News and Tools

McKinsey & Co’s ‘Learning for Social Impact’ website is a wealth of resources. Look especially at its 'Tools and Resources for Assessing Social Impact (TRASI)' for insights into 150 tools, methodologies and existing best practice for measuring impact.

There have been many discussions about the pros and cons of using SROI as a performance approach – especially for Social Enterprises. Download REDF's (SROI’s creator) "Stepping Out of the Maze" Series: SROI Act II: A Call to Action for Next Generation SROI” for some additional perspective.

Every organisation has to deliver results, but embedding ‘performance’ within its mindset is business critical

Most organisations focus on whether they have achieved their strategic and operational goals. Or they monitor the perception of their stakeholders regarding how well they are delivering products and services. This results in an over-reliance on what is quantifiable and easiest to collect rather than looking at performance within the context of the bigger picture.

For example –

  • A charity may concentrate on an annual impact survey
  • A company could base pay and bonuses solely on its appraisal system.

The Solution Shedd has developed performance and escalation approaches for a diverse array of industries – from banking and international development to museums and charities.  Our performance-related services include –

  • Strategic requirements assessment
  • Framework development and implementation*
  • Installation of financial controls
  • Training of staff to ensure compliance.

*(bespoke or using ‘standard' approach such as SROI, balance scorecard, etc.)
